Roots on the River: Lodging & Directions

How do I get there, and where do I stay? Well, in reverse order...

Lodging Options

There is a plentiful selection of motels, inns and B&Bs in the area (see map & list here). We urge you to book early, as rooms do go fast, and there are competing events during Roots on the River. Please let folks taking your reservation know you're coming for Roots on the River.

If you wish to speak with someone about the numerous lodging options in the Chester area, Paul Dexter of Henry Farm Inn has generously agreed to serve as our resource. Email him here, or call him at (800) 723-8213 or (802) 875-2674.

There are numerous chain motels in Brattleboro (approximately 30 minutes south of the festival, straight down I-91), mostly centered around Exit 3.

We offer the opportunity to sleep on the stage Friday night to provide security if you’re interested. (That’s free, but only available to one party.)

"What about camping?", some of you have asked. Well, on site it's kind of a crapshoot - first come/first served; no facilities other than porta-potties (the original "Fred Heads," heh heh heh); no formal spots (and no open fires allowed); and you're going to be doing so in between the motel parking lot & Route 5. If you've got a camper or RV of some sort, you'll be fine. If you're roughing it in a tent, hopefully you've got friends with a motel room or well-equipped camper. The upside? It's cheap ($30/night, per spot - not per person), and you'll have a front-row seat for the sort of late-night, post-show musical shenanigans that tend to happen after the last act leaves the stage. (By the same token, if a drum circle starts up, you're subject to that, too. I'm not saying it will happen, but you've been warned.) Prefer to camp offsite? Check here for listings.
